Common Practices Within the IFB

1. Seek to ingratiate themselves to law enforcement and politicians.
2. Authoritarian leadership style (Patriarchical). "Touch not God's anointed."
3. Debates over which version of the Bible is acceptable.
4. Commonalities in beliefs regarding corporal punishment of children (breaking the will of a child).
5. Strong advocates/emphasis on Independent Fundamental Christian schools or Homeschooling (isolation from the "world" and "secular humanism").
6. Low view of women (Strong emphasis on absolute obedience and submission. No equality).
7. Some groups (particularly in the IFB homeschool group) do not believe in girls attending college. There is a strong disdain for women working outside the home.
8. Very low salaries for Christian school, college/university, and ministry employees.
9. Extreme Clothing and Attire Requirements (hair, dress, etc.)
10. Specific rules and regulations about lifestyle choices (mandated work, oversight of activities outside the organizations, etc.).
11. Unhealthy emphasis on purity and holiness.
12. Extreme rhetoric focused on sin, guilt, shame, and fear.
13. Lack of Accreditation and legitimate credentials or licensure.
14. Pervasive fear and paranoia of government control and the "outside world." There is an overall "us vs. them" mentality.
15. Apocalyptic/coming doom and destruction of the world mentality.
16. Ban on music not used within the sect. No rock beat is acceptable.
17. There is significant information control and revision of church history.
18. An overall inflated and distorted view of the importance of the sect within culture.
